Ambassador Isabeau

Isabeau is a beautiful Red-tailed Hawk, approximately 4 years old. As a young fledgling, she was found on the ground in Shingle Springs having collided with something. She had lost the vision in her left eye and during a medical evaluation, Isabeau tested positive for West Nile Virus. She was successfully treated for the virus and blunt force injury but hawks must have vision in both eyes to hunt in the wild. Because of this requirement, Isabeau joined our education team and has been impressing both kids and adults wherever she makes an appearance.

Red-tailed Hawks are solitary but can be spotted in pairs during breeding season. They have impressive aerial skills and can be seen all year long as they are non-migratory. Their distinct vocalizations are high-pitched screams and screeches.
